Study on MIM 316L Stainless Steel Strengthened Treatment by Hot Isostatic Pressing

Abstract: 316L stainless steel parts and tensile test strips were prepared by metal injection molding (MIM) process at different sintering temperatures, and this products were post treated by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at different temperatures. The tensile fracture morphology of the samples was analyzed. The results show that when the sintering temperature of 316L stainless steel prepared by MIM process is between 1300 ℃ and 1400 ℃, the relative density of the sintered parts increases with the increase of sintering temperature, however, the yield strength and tensile strength begin to decrease after the sintering temperature reaches 1360 ℃. Compared with the non-HIP post-treated parts, the porosity of 316L stainless steel parts strengthened treatment by HIP reduces, the relative density and twin structure increases, and the yield strength and tensile strength improve. Compared with the MIM sample, the fracture morphology of 316L stainless steel prepared by MIM + HIP post-treatment has larger and deeper dimple size and better plasticity than that of the MIM sample.
