Effect of WC on Properties of Fe base Alloy Laser Cladding Layer

Abstract: By adding a certain proportion of tungsten carbide hard particles to the Fe base alloy powder, the hardness, friction coefficient and wear morphology of the cladding layer were analyzed, and the influence of tungsten carbide on the performance of Fe base alloy cladding layer was explored. The results show that the hardness of the matrix is 302 HV, the average hardness of Fe base alloy cladding is 500 HV, while the average hardness of Fe base gradient composite cladding layer with 5%, 10% and 15% tungsten carbide particles is 662, 771, 806 HV, respectively.Fe base alloy cladding has better wear resistance than matrix. As the proportion of tungsten carbide hard particles added to the Fe base alloy powder increases gradually, the friction coefficient between the cladding layer and the pair of grinding pairs decreases gradually, and the wear amount decreases gradually. When the proportion of tungsten carbide hard particles reaches 15%, the wear amount increases and the ploughing phenomenon is serious because there are more unmelted tungsten carbide hard particles in the cladding layer.
