Abstract: The bright spot defects on the surface of 42CrMo steel gear sleeve forgings were analyzed by using metallography, fracture scanning, and energy spectrum analysis. It is determined that the defects belong to point segregation, and there are sulfide and oxide inclusions at the same time, which leads to poor plastic toughness and can not meet the standard requirements.
