Abstract:
Two kinds of graphite(S1, S2) were embedded in copper alloy Cu15Ni8Sn, and the ring specimens were machined to form friction pairs with 05Cr17Ni4Cu4Nb stainless steel blocks. The effects of two kinds of graphite coverage(32%, 43%) on the friction and wear properties of the composites were studied. The results show that the friction coefficient and wear of S1 type graphite increase with the increase of graphite coverage, while the friction coefficient and wear of S2 type graphite decrease with the increase of graphite coverage. The surface coverage of graphite affects the friction and wear properties of different Cu/graphite composites, and the friction coefficient and wear amount of S2 graphite are the smallest when the surface coverage of S2 graphite is 43%, which is 0.13. With the increase of S1 graphite content, the strength, hardness and impact toughness of the copper alloy matrix decrease obviously, and the bearing capacity also decreases, which leads to the plastic deformation of the copper alloy surface and the increase of the friction coefficient and wear. The S2 graphite contains silver element, and the addition of silver element enhances the strength of the copper ring matrix. Therefore, the higher the proportion of embedded graphite, the greater the friction coefficient and wear.
