Abstract:
Ti/(Al
3Ti-Al Ti
3) laminate composites with brick and mortar structure were prepared by vacuum hot pressing sintering method. The phase and microstructure of the composites were characterized by XRD, EPMA and SEM. The effects of the composite structure on the bending property of the composites were studied by comparing with the layered structure Ti/(Al
3Ti-Al Ti
3) laminate composites. The results show that in the brick-and-mortar structure Ti/(Al
3Ti-Al Ti
3) laminate composites,Al
3Ti and Al Ti
3form polygonal platelet structure, and the platelets are interlaced and distributed in the composites. The center of the platelet is the Al
3Ti layer with a thickness of 76 μm, the outer layer of the platelet is the Al Ti
3layer with a thickness of40 μm, and the length of the platelet is 1-2 mm. The adjacent platelets are connected by ductile Ti. Compared with those of the layered structure laminate composites, the bending strength and failure strain of the brick-and-mortar composites are increased by 82% and 25%, respectively, with the bending strength of 675.6 MPa and the bending failure strain of 7%.
