Abstract:
Additive manufacturing(AM) technology has achieved practical applications and batch production in the aviation field due to its weight reduction and design freedom. Meanwhile, because it can relax geometric constraints and realize manufacture of complex parts characterized by topology optimization design, it brings many challenges in airworthiness verification process, such as the regionalization of structural detailed defects, changes in structural load paths and failure modes, and possible deterioration after long-term loading. The latest application progress of AM technology in the aviation industry and the contents of released guidance materials were summarized. Based on the minimum safety requirements for civil aircraft airworthiness, the airworthiness verification opinions were discussed by taking plasma arc directed energy deposition as an example, the discussion was primarily focused on aspects such as materials, processes, quality inspection, the design of material allowable values and design values, as well as the verification of structural components. It makes a preliminary technical exploration and paves the road for its widely application in the aviation industry.
