Numerical Simulation of Melting Pool Spacing in ESC Process by Filling Method of Fixed Consumable Electrode

    • The distance between metal melting pools in the process of electroslag casting with fixed consumable electrode filling was studied by numerical simulation. It is found that the technological factors have an important effect on the distance between molten pools in the process of fixed consumable electrode filling. The larger the current density and the filling ratio are,the smaller the electrode spacing is, the smaller the melting pool spacing is. The reasonable combination of current density, filling ratio and electrode spacing can make the molten metal melt which is melted by moving consumable electrode into the molten pool of metal under fixed electrode smoothly, and ensure the casting solidification and forming under stable electroslag condition. The results of numerical calculation of the distance between molten pools can be used as the basis for the design of auxiliary process cavity in the process of electroslag casting with complex shape by fixed consumable electrode filling method.
