Research Advances in Hybrid Process Combining Metal Additive Manufacturing and Interlayer Strengthening

    • The hybrid processes combining metal additive manufacturing and interlayer strengthening are effective approach to address the challenges of microstructural and mechanical anisotropy, porosity defects, and residual stresses in metal additively manufactured components. The recent advances in hybrid processes combining additive manufacturing with interlayer rolling, hammering, ultrasonic impact, shot peening, laser shock peening and synchronous ultrasonic vibration were comprehensively reviewed. The underlying mechanisms of these techniques were systematically analyzed, and their effectiveness and limitations in microstructural control and performance enhancement were critically summarized. Future development trends in this technological field were also discussed. It provides valuable references for the selection of hybrid additive manufacturing processes for high-performance metal components
